I was nine years old when I began working with my grandfather, a plumber, during school breaks in our sleepy beach town. He’d wake me at 5 a.m., and we’d head out in his old work van, stopping for a buttered roll before joining the chaos of the Garden State Parkway commute. On the job, I started by cleaning copper fittings until he sternly reminded me, “A plumber can’t work sitting down.” From then on, he taught me not only plumbing but also life lessons between his Tareyton cigarettes, pastrami bagel lunches, and bursts of AM radio news: know what’s right and do it, work hard, and don’t let anybody stop you. Those mornings instilled in me a sense of adventure, opportunity, and work ethic that continues to guide Shorely Plumbing and Heating today—where we serve every customer with “service you can shorely trust.”
